First Exposure Playtest Hall
A dedicated area to playtest games that are still in development and not available for retail purchase.
Scores of designers and publishers present their prototype games in the First Exposure Playtest Hall (FEPH). Gen Con attendees have a chance to play them for free - the presenters pay for playtest sessions instead of the players buying tickets. Room coordinators attempt to match attendees with presenters, to provide a more curated experience.
For designers of a game-in-development, this is a chance to get it in front of the huge number of passionate gamers at Gen Con. Put your idea on the table and see how it survives "in the wild" and get immediate, direct feedback. If there are specific types of feedback requested, for instance, gamers with a particular interest in a specific kind of game, let FEPH staff know and they will help coordinate that, to get focused, targeted feedback.
The FEPH is scheduled in 2-hour sessions throughout the weekend, from 8 am until midnight each day (closing at 2 pm on Sunday). All manner of games are welcome, including card, board, dice, miniature, story, role-playing, etc.
For designers, packages of four 2-hour sessions, which include two GM badges, cost $300; eight 2-hour sessions, with 4 GM badges, cost $600. A link to the FEPH application will be posted on the website around the time event submission opens.
For players, this is an opportunity to get a peek into the game design process, and help make the next generation of games even better - you may even get your name in the playtest credits of an upcoming release! At each session, you'll have a chance to see what kind of games are available to try out, so you can try something that most closely matches with your interests.
Every year in the FEPH, thousands of players are connected with scores of designers and publishers. Now you can be a part of that magic!
Players can get tickets for individual sessions just like any other event when event registration opens; however, walk up attendees can usually be accommodated as well.
This program is presented by Double Exposure.
